Here's a picture of the first piece of furniture I made, obviously all from reclaimed timber (taken in our garden when we lived in Shropshire. Really fantastic views, but I still prefer the sea!). It was a great learning process making this chair and I felt quite a simple sense of achievement when it was finished. Poor thing is stuck in a shed, for the moment, but I hope we can bring it back into the house at some point.
I live in Cornwall, UK with my wife Jane, our dog, two cats and two chickens.
We moved to Cornwall from Shropshire in 2005 after a coming here for many years on holiday. I have always wanted to live by the sea and although we're no where near as close as I'd like, at least we can get to it in about 15 minutes by car and almost anywhere in the county in under an hour. The thought of not living even this close would now be unthinkable.
Although I do have another blog, which features my book design work (my former day job), this one features the furniture I make. From Summer 2011 I really want to concentrate much more on making furniture so this will become my main occupation.
Most of the furniture I produce tends to be quirky, bespoke one-off pieces but I'm always happy to replicate a previous piece or produce something to a customer's exact requirements. I also have a sketchbook full of ideas just waiting to be made!
